Welcome to PugetWorks

We create web applications, mobile applications and online maps in Seattle, WA. Please contact us to talk about your software situation. Even if we cannot help you, we might just know someone who can.

Our Firm

PugetWorks has been in business since 2005 and has completed more than 50 software projects successfully. We are a team of professional software engineers, designers, and project managers with the rare ability to succeed on projects both large and small. Our clients have asked us to build usable websites, beautiful iPhone apps, rock solid enterprise applications, and innovative technology start-ups.

Our Methodology

Starting with anything from a drawing on the back of a napkin to a detailed design document, we can help you refine your overall goals into a set of clear, achievable milestones. First, we would work with you to define your product vision. Then we would walk you through the different processes and trade offs of the most recent technology. Once the vision is defined, and the technologies selected, we would handle the construction and deployment of the software. Finally we would train your permanent employees to support the system and then our work is done.

You bring the idea, we bring the team, you own the product.

We're a full-service firm

Pugetworks offers years of experience working with clients in diverse areas of design and development. We've built everything from enterprise applications to iPhone games, working with large corporations, small startups, and everybody in between. Almost every Android application has two parts.  On one side is the user interface that the user controls and views the information with.  On the other side is a network component for talking to a server or updating its information.  When you write an Android application you are always given control of the thread that… [more]

Problem As a Ruby on Rails developer, you have a lots of choices for creating visually wonderful websites. And with the introduction of Sass in Rails 3.1, CSS has become easier to code then ever. Software Application Pills

A friend of mine once pointed out that when you are creating software, a very good way to look at it is “how dependent will your users be on your software?”.  Then in his usual clever way, he related it to pills.  Well, not pills so much but, pill like items.   In this regards how… [more]

VMWare and Ubuntu High Load issues

Intro Recently I was involved in moving a large website from Slicehost to an ASP (Application Service Provider) closer to the client. Everything went well, until DNS was updated. Load on the server was high all the time and would increase to a point where web pages wouldn’t be served any more. Comparison Slicehost and… [more]

What’s better for web design, Photoshop or Illustrator?

A lot of people ask whether Photoshop is better than Illustrator for web design. This is really a misleading question, because they’re both useful in different ways. Personally, I use them both, usually drawing shapes in Illustrator and then sending them to Photoshop to be colored and textured. It’s a bit like an assembly line… [more]
